TV ‘shows’ must go on!!!

Ever wondered, how many TV shows have shut in past 2 months? Let’s put some light on it and see who replaced who!

Off Air Shows Replaced By
Maryada (Star Plus)
Sasural Genda Phool (Star Plus) Ek Dusre Se Karte Hain Pyar Hum
I Love My India (Sab TV) Bhai, Bhaiyya aur Brother
Ram Milaye Jodi (Zee TV) Phir Subah Hogi
Choti Bahu (Zee TV) Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke
Havan (Colors) Kairi – Rishta Khatta Meetha
Laado (Colors) Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha
Zindagi Kahe.. Smile Please (Life Ok) Aasman Se Aage
Meri Maa (Life Ok) Amrit Manthan

Above all shows ended with very low ratings, except Sasural Genda Phool. But Sasural Genda Phool team along with Star team felt it’s good to end up a show on a high note rather than unnecessarily dragging it. But, one just cannot blame ratings for the same. There are a lot of other issues to be dealt with while making a TV show. And to shut it, is a big decision for channel as well as the producers. Soaps are such, one track doesn’t work and the story is changed. After a while, the original plot or the crux of the show is lost. This has been witnessed in a lot of shows. And that could be one of the major reasons for them to shut. Moreover, creatives can’t experiment a lot these days as they all have to work with lot of limitations.

Also, as Imagine TV shut, its all 5 shows shut too! 14 shows being shut in a span of 2 months and a few new ones have already replaced them. So, what happens next? A few new ones are in pipeline which will be launched post IPL; such as, Byaah Hamari Bahu Ka, Indian Idol and post that KBC on Sony TV. Also, Jhalak Dikhla Jaa’s next season is around the corner, but this time on Colors.

There are rumors about Mann Ki Awaaz Pratigya (Star Plus) and Shubh Vivah on (Sony) soon to go off air. Nothing has been official about it, but there have been talks about it. As they say, there is no smoke without fire. So, which shows will replace them? Will the new shows be able to garner the same ratings for the channel or prove to be otherwise?

My question for you all is –

What kind of shows you’d like to watch? What kind of quality would you prefer? Do you want any sequels? If, yes, which ones?

Till then, do enjoy watching your own favorite shows with their own twists and tadkas in it! 🙂

Interview with Sasural Genda Phool star Ragini Khanna [iDubba exclusive]

Hello to all Sasural Genda Phool and Ragini Khanna (aka Suhana) fans! As you might be knowing that this show is off-air now. We tried to catch up with Suhana (as you all know) and discussed what lies ahead for her in the industry now. She specially took out time and had an amazing conversation with me. Over to you now!

In Conversation with Ragini:

Me: As there’s a buzz, what’s your take on the show being shut?

Ragini: Hi. I’m good! I am actually not feeling anything now. As they say, every show has an ending, so be it! If the show has to end it has to end. There’s no said time for a show to remain on-air or to go off-air and its always better to shut it when it is going good and get a sensible ending; rather than just dragging it till audience gets irritated. Sasural Genda Phool has ended on a happy note; I’d consider it to be as a good ending to a new, better and bigger beginning!

Me: Well Ragini, that’s what I call smartness and practicality. I’m sure audience would also move on after a while. We wish you luck for your bigger and better opportunities.

Me: Your MOST memorable moment on the show?

Ragini: The entire journey as Suhana is memorable. But the thing I remember the most is, bullying Ashish Chethi. I used to team up with other guys and we used to bully/rag him a lot! But he’s a sweetheart. He used to always take it sportingly!

Me: Seems like a lot of fun! This reminds me of you as ‘Bharti’ in Bhaskar Bharti. LOL! Fun times 😀

Me: Can fans expect season 2 of Sasural Genda Phool?

Ragini: I’m not aware of any sequel but if it’s going to happen, then I’d definitely like to be a part of it!

Me: And what change would you want in it?

Ragini: Something which I’ve never done before. Something fresh, new and challenging!

Me: Guys, you’re free to give your craziest and whackiest of suggestions for Ragini’s role, in Sasural Genda Phool sequel (If it might just happen, who knows?)

Me: What are your next plans?

Ragini: Nothing really thought on this. I like to move with the flow. As the show’s off-air now, I’d like to spend some quality time with my family and friends, do loads of pending work and discover myself.

Me: Ah! Discover yourself. Hmm.. Being Philosophical! I like it. I’m still on it but haven’t yet fully discovered, what I want to do or become. It’s interesting!

Me: You want become a Bollywood babe or stay TV teen?

Ragini: For me, they both are just different mediums to showcase my acting skills. I’d like to be a part of both, always. (Laughs)

Me: Again a smart answer! You want to eat the cake and its icing too! Hmm.. Not bad at all. “Super like” on your thought of not literally discriminating between both the medium.

Me: Your current favourite show on TV which you’d like to be a part of and why?

Ragini: None on Indian Television. But I love watching Two and a Half Men.

Me: Oh, Wow! Its my favorite show too. Will you act if I make an Indian version of it titled ‘Two and a half women’?

Ragini: (Instantly) Oh yes! I’d love to play Charlie Sheen’s character in it.

Me: Ragini, I’m on it now! I will pen down the new concept for you.

Ragini: (Excitedly) How sweet! Do it soon.

Me: Your Big Goal of 2012?

Ragini: To discover myself. Its been so many years, but still I feel I’m a confused soul. Need to discover myself and that is my goal.

Me: Well, I hope you do discover your actual self, sooner than soon!

Me: 2 lines for iDubba fans/readers/viewers please.

Ragini: Hey first of all, please don’t call Television an idiot-box. Its very intelligent and broadcasts many intelligent shows. Infact, I feel, we are a bunch of idiots sitting in front of it. Instead we should call it “Intelligent Dubba” 🙂 And audience do educate themselves and become “Intelligent Dubba’s Intelligent Audience.” Respect to all readers and viewers who watch TV and do not consider it as an idiot-box. Love to all iDubba readers and viewers. Keep watching your favourite shows and keep loving your favorite actors and characters. Enjoy!

Ciao!

Me: Well, I hope you all have enjoyed reading it. 🙂

Would you like to see Ragini on small screen soon?
