TV Industry mein kab kya ho jaaye.. Koi IMAGINE nahi kar sakta..!!!

Turner Broadcasting System decided to cut down investments into its Hindi general entertainment channel Imagine TV, which it had acquired from NDTV in 2010. April 12, 2012 was the last working day for the channel and then Imagine TV would be airing re-runs beginning April 13, 2012. This also applies to its international feed Imagine Dil Se.

Apparently, there were ‘talks’ which were unheard about this abrupt ending of Imagine TV. But it did not last long; people thought it to be just another rumor and did not pay any heed to it. But the declining ratings did not lie. Imagine TV has been consistently on a decline; it became worse after the launch of Life Ok since December 2011. So, somewhere, someone might have predicted about Imagine biding adieu soon!

Imagine TV has always given some different shows. For example, shows like Dwarkadheesh and Chandragupta Maurya. These shows did better in terms of content as well as ratings compared to other shows. I’m sure the loyal fans would have felt bad because the shows had to undergo sudden ending. For ardent fans, shows very much become a part of their daily routine. Imagine how you would feel, when you daily meet your best friend and suddenly he/she stops meeting you without any news? You have no clue, right? But as they say, “the show must go on”; we follow this, feel sad, depressed for a few days and then move on. Unfortunately, these 2 good shows also, were not able to save the sinking ship of Imagine TV.

I have quite a few friends who were working with the channel. I really feel sad for them. When we happened to talk, one of them mentioned, “nobody had imagined it’d shut like this; without any notice given to its employees.” And I was speechless. I did not know how to react! I feel miserable for the crew associated with the production houses; like technicians, light men, etc. How are they supposed to manage their own household? As we all know, one TV show practically employees 200 people. For the record, 200 households are run by one TV show. And now one whole channel has shut. There were more than 5 on-air shows on Imagine TV. Just imagine, 5 on-air shows shut, more than 1000 people are unemployed. This is a SHOCK!

A shock NOT only to me or you, but to everyone associated with the industry as well as the audience! Actors, producers and even directors are left wondering HOW such thing happened! Everyone is thinking in the same direction – “They should have given prior notice.” But nevertheless, it just happened! I’m proud to be a part of the industry where everybody comes together in crisis. Other channels and different production houses are trying their best to provide jobs to all those who NEED it.

This sudden ending of Imagine TV has made everyone think and everyone needs to buck up. Bhaiyya ratings ka he sab khel hai. Kab kya ho jaaye, kaunsa show bandh ho jaaye, koi IMAGINE nahi kar sakta…!! One week you do not get ratings and imagine channel decides to shut your show? It may happen, it may not! Just work best and get all your crazy, whacky ideas from nowhere and execute them in the best way to run your show.

Let’s pray and wish best for those who are unemployed and hope they get employed again, sooner than soon!

Reality shows to watch out for in 2010

Hi, first of all a very happy new year to all iDubba readers. We had a a great time last year and we hope that this year we’ll be able to take iDubba to new heights. So how to start this new year’s first post? Well since you know that throughout last year “Reality” tag was amongst the favorites, so we’ll start with same this year too :).. (i beg your  pardon, but I know you love it too)!!

Last year Indian TV broadcasting saw a major overhaul, with Colors overcoming Star Plus’s supremacy and reality shows taking over saas-bahu sagas. The year started with Colors launching “Khatron Ke Khiladi” and then came several trend revolutionizing shows like- “Rakhi Ka Swayamvar”, “Sachh Ka Saamna” and not to forget “Raaz Pichle Janam ka”. These shows revolutionized the trend (to some extent though) of show picking during prime time slots. Some say the programs were exciting, some say they were too extreme, but at the end everyone watched them. Now let’s have a look at some of the most anticipated shows of 2010-

“Lift Kara De” on Sony– A reality show where contestants compete to prove that they are the biggest fan of their chosen Superstar. The premise look promising(with host Karan Johar) and the concept is a novel one, let’s see how it turns out to be. But yes, it may prove to be good for Sony, which is not able to deliver any promising reality show (except for Comedy Circus and Dus Ka Dum).

“National Bingo Night” on Colors- If you have seen recent ads where Abhishek talks about “aaram Classes”- yes they are the Promos of a new show to be aired soon on Colors. It’s a reality Game show where both the contestants and TV audiences will take part. The show will have two fast paced rounds of the popular guessing game ‘Bingo’ where the studio contestant plays one of many in-studio games, which is driven by the game ball numbers. The audiences meanwhile have to predict the numbers and match them with the tickets that will be handed out to them. It’s a game of intellect, luck and good guesswork!

“Rahul Dulhaniya Le jaeinge” on NDTV Imagine. This was one of the anticipated ones this year, but got delayed as NDTV wanted to air “Raaz Pichle Janam ka” before this. This is a mirror image of famous show aired last year “Rakhi Ka Swayamwar”. I mentioned about this sometime back in my post.

“Indian Premier Laughter Show” on Star One. Star one lost the heat after its flagship “Indian Laughter Challenge” show went off-air. It seems quite logical for them to come up with a similar concept this year too. People love comedy in any form, hence we would love to watch another season of that famous show.

There are other highly anticipated reality shows which are going to be on-air this year. Let’s see what all we have-

Colors– “Chak Dhoom Dhoom”- Dance talent, “Bigg Boss-4”, “Khatron Ke Khiladi-3”.

Zee– “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, Li’l Champs”.

Star Plus– “Sach Ka Saamna-2”.

Sony– “Indian Idol-5”, “Jhalak Dikhlaja-4”, “Boogie Woogie”, “Dus Ka Dum-3”.

So let’s sit back and enjoy ourselves, and don’t forget to register on iDubba if you want regular updates on the Schedules of these shows :).

The pursuit of Rakhi

Rakhi Sawant-4

All right! We accept it. This blog is crazy about Rakhi Sawant and can’t help but write about her inanities and overtures ( btw, who doesn’t? ;)).With her swayamver coming to a ceremonial end, and the rejected string of suitors, packing their bags and leaving (with  their respective barats in toe), we really can’t wait to know whats up Rakhi’s bejeweled sleeve next.Apart from the humongous public response, her swayamver set a record of sorts.  It has breached all previously set records of feigned affection (and other related plastic emotions) on national television,  so much for the much –touted  “reality” of it. The way a bunch of people came together and made up for the apparent absence of rakhi’s family was indeed laughable (personally I laughed my heart out at ram’s (the muhbola bhaiyya, who stood by Rakhi through all her stupidities and was an inspirational source for half of them) portrayal. What was even more amusing was the way well educated, phoren bred grooms queued up and jostled for space to court the elusive Rakhi, leave alone the bhangra and grooming sessions for the shutterbugs. How desperate could one get??

Jokes apart, Rakhi has  given Indian television a new style of programming to play with. Who else could pull off a show like that? Rakhi has monopolized this style, which for a while will remain restricted  to herself .The TRPs (which went through the roof on the D day) stand testimony to the fact that love or it loath it, we all watch it (yes intellectuals, pseudo intellectuals n wannabes included). N boi, does it sell !

[Note: Rakhi Ka Swayamvar was watched by 15.8 Million users on D-Day. Source- aMap]
