And the winners are… IIFA 2012

IIFA Awards, so called International version of Bollywood awards was back. As mentioned in our earlier post “IIFA Awards are back at the Lion’s city – Singapore” there were many performances that were lined up to make this event even more special. Are you all set to read more about what exactly happened at the award ceremony? Well iDubba has the details for you. So just sit back and enjoy the post.

Hosts Shahid Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar tried to keep the audience in splits with their wit and humour. Unlike the other awards show, they tried not to make much fun of their fellow actors. Well as they say that SRK only has the rights to do that! Well moving on, the show saw star-studded performances by Sonakshi Sinha, Bipasha Basu, Prabhu Deva, Priyanka Chopra, Shahid, Rishi and Ranbir Kapoor. You might ask where are the other start? Well this year`s IIFA awards was different, and the actors who were missed by all included Hrithik Roshan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, John Abraham, Saif Ali Khan, Anil Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, and Sonam Kapoor.

As expected, Zoya Akhtar`s ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ and Imtiaz Ali`s ‘Rockstar’ triumphed at the 13th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards, with each winning four trophies. The film industry also paid heart-warming tributes to long timers Ramesh Sippy and Rekha and bestowed them each with the Outstanding Achievement awards. As mentioned earlier that the big stars were missing, it was time for the young guns to take up the responsibility and keep the show alive.

So when will we be able to see the award show on television? Well don’t worry we will also share the details and the dates with you. But till then let’s check out the winners of this prestigious award. Check out the complete list of winners.

Is your favorite movie song and serial the same…. !!

Strange… right… Well, don’t be surprised but your favorite movie songs might actually end up becoming your favorite serial too.

Gone are those days when every other serial name would start with K (No offense to the makers), but that was a trend and a successful one. Times have changed now, and so does the trends. Now it’s a latest fashion to have movie songs as the title of a serial. You might agree that Films and Television always had a unique relationship since the beginning, and this trend is taking it one step ahead. Oh yes, I know you might now start recollecting those names 😉

Well, Let me help you with those amazing songs that are now the title of the most famous serials (some are popular in terms of content and some are popular just by their names) I will not get into the details of which are popular just by their names 😉 It’s up to you to decide that.

So, let’s start with the TV Soaps that have got their titles from the movie songs :

  • Kuch Toh Log Kahenge“, a hit song picturised on Sharmila Tagore and Rajesh Khanna in “Amar Prem“, is now the love story between Mohnish Behl and Kritika Kamra
  • The title of Ekta Kapoor’s “Bade Acche Lagte Hain” is picked up from the song in the 1976 movie “Balika Badhu“, about the arranged marriage of two teenagers, played by Sachin Pilgaonker and Rajni Sharma
  • Dekha Ek Khwaab“, has been taken from the evergreen song “Dekha ek khwaab toh yeh silsilay hue” picturised on Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha in the 1981 film “Silsila
  • Sapno Se Bhare Naina” is from ShankarEhsaanLoy’s composition from the soundtrack of “Luck By Chance
  • Iss Pyaar ko Main Kya Naam Doon” is another show that takes its title from a song from Tusshar KapoorKareena Kapoor-starrer “Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai
  • Kya Hua Tera Vaada“, is from the movie Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin in 1977. Sung by the great Mohammad Rafi
  • Sasural Genda Phool” is from the movie Delhi 6, and sung by Rekha Bharadwaj & others under music composition by A.R.Rehman

And so on…So let me take this opportunity to ask you, is this a healthy trend? Or has the Television Industry run out of creative ideas? Well, time will only tell and of course the viewers who make it a hit or a flop. The TRP’s of the show will have the final say on this interesting trend 😉 So, do let us know if you come across any such serials that have its title been taken from a movie song. Don’t forget to share your views on this latest trend.

Satellite rights game…. Who is the real winner??

Imagine that you come to know that the most recent movie that you saw in a movie hall last week is about to be aired on television in a month” time… How do you feel about it??

Well, gone are those days when you had to wait for months and months before you get a chance to watch a new movie on television. It’s the latest trend on television these days. Honestly, in my opinion both the audience and the director are the real winners and not to forget the channel that airs these movies. The channels do mint loads of money as they get maximum viewers watching their channel and no doubt sponsors make it even bigger. They get chance to showcase their latest serials to the audience.

Let me give you an example, I might not watch ZTV and its daily soaps, but as you know that ZTV has bought the satellite rights of Don 2 for 37 crores. Yes you read it right… 37 crores. , so when they air Don 2, during the break, they will show the promos of their daily soaps, and this is when they get a chance to attract new viewers for their shows. Isn’t it interesting!!!! Not only this, the directors too get some return on the investment even before the movie is released. According to some experts, the TV satellite rights market has grown more than 10 times in the last decade alone. “Big flicks bring channels high TRPs and bumper ad revenue. This also gives a chance to the television audience to watch a movie in this living room with his entire family.”

So are you excited to watch the daily soaps 😉 just kidding. So are you excited to know which channel is in the game of buying movie satellite rights…. here you go

  • Sony Entertainment Television has inked a deal for four movie blockbusters including the super hit ‘The Dirty Picture’. (Amount not disclosed)
  • Zee acquires satellite rights of Don 2 for Rs. 37 crores
  • The satellite rights of `Agneepath` have been sold to Zee for Rs 41 crore
  • `Krrish 3` has been sold for Rs 37 crore to Star TV
  • Sony Entertainment supposedly paid 40 crore for Aamir Khan-Kareena Kapoor’s Movie “Taalash”

So are you going to watch Agneepath in a Movie Hall or in your living room!!!!  So let us know your views on this latest trend 😉

Happy Viewing.

Filmfare Lady goes to..The Awards List

After we got you the Nomination List of the Filmfare Awards here , the award ceremony took place yesterday in the newly built Reliance Media Works studio in Film City. Amidst glamour and glitz, there were moments of laughter and fun. There were nerve wrenching moments, especially for those who were nominated. Performances, hilarious acts by SRK & Ranbir and much more.

The much awaited evening began with a musical tribute to Dev Anand, with Javed Ali of Coke Studio doing a version of Dil ka bhanwar, Aise na mujhe tum dekho and Khoya khoya chand. Up next were Shaan, accompanied by Leslie Lewis presenting an ode to Shammi Kapoor with Baar baar dekho, Dil deke dekho and Badan pe sitare.

This year, the hosts were a mixed doubles pair of sorts. Each pair shone bright and entertained the audience. SRK and Ranbir dropped from an aerial harness and collided mid-air as sparks flew literally. SRK ribbed Ranbir, accusing him of overacting and saying that sons of great actors seldom matched up. Ably supported by Karan Johar , Ali Zafar and former Miss India Ankita Shorey, the duo made the audience crack up with their antics.

As always, the event had an A-list of performers whose flamboyant acts lent glamour to the evening. Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, there was Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, who each enacted a medley of their hit numbers. Also performed the soon-to-be-married couple, Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia, who put up a spirited pre-nuptial tango that included a song from their forthcoming film Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya.

(The awards shall be telecasted on February 19th, 2012 at 8pm on Sony Tv).

We shall bring to you more news about Filmfare. So Stay Tuned !!

Kaun Banega Ra.One?

Did you watch “Kaun Banega Crorepati” on Thursday that had Shahrukh Khan as celebrity guest? If the answer is no then you have saved 2 hours of your precious life with the overdose of Ra.One’s promotional marketing (SRK’s much hyped super hero flick).

It was genuinely an overkill of the hype that is generally created before the release of any film. SRK just couldn’t stop promoting the movie at every instance possible. The hilarious part is how even “computer ji” threw questions around the movie and SRK.

Some examples that i could recollect from my memory for you:

– The show apparently kicked off with Senior Bachchan congratulating SRK for his upcoming movie

– Senior Bachchan bragging all over about the movie and its budget, how it is one of the most expensive movies ever made in Indian film industry

– There was a question with answer as Kareena Kapoor (female lead of Ra.One) and that followed by calling her where she asked SRK to sing the famous song “chamak challo” of the same movie

– There was another question that had a line from the movie and answer with the name of a character from movie called “chitti” & Shahrukh was happy to answer and announce that he recently heard it on the sets

– There were 3 different questions which had answers related to India’s first F1 track that SRK recently inaugurated, Nokia for whom he is the brand ambassador and also the movie Asoka he did.

We have our doubts that these questions were a mere coincident or again well scripted promotional episode of Ra.One movie!!
