Parichay…Lekin kiska? [viewer’s section]

iDubba is back with its Viewer’s Section blog for this week. Enjoy this second post from one of our ardent viewer Nausheen Raja about Parichay, a popular show on Colors TV.

Balaji’s synopsis: Parichay is a tale of a Mumbai based middle class Punjabi Family that portrays love, care, struggles, challenges and bonding amongst its members. The story revolves around the eldest son of the family, Kunal Chopra (Samir Soni), who has lost his zest in life due to his failures. Dejected, he begins to feel as a failure amidst his family and the society at large. Watch the story unfold as Kunal finds his way in life.’

Parichay…Nayee Zindagi Kay Sapno Ka is a new and a unique show Ekta Kapoor has created. We have seen a male centric show after really long time. This type of show has never been tried before and therefore was very exciting for the audience to see a show with the story based on a male character. We were promised a new show with a central character known as Kunal Chopra (Samir Soni). But did we REALLY get what we were promised?

Well, we did get to see Kunal’s struggles him not having a job, his girlfriend leaving him, his younger brother dying on his own wedding day, having to marry his dead brother’s bride, a number of times getting a job losing a job and so on…

The story became more interesting when Kunal and Siddhi started to develop feelings for each other but didn’t know how to tell each other…the consummation scene was appreciated and was said to be one of the best scenes from many fans. The fans call them the “SiNal” lovingly. But the kidnapping track made them realise each other’s importance in their lives. However, their continuous arguing was and is still great to watch as it is just harmless fun. 😛

They also have had a great run at the TRPs! YES these are important for any show and Parichay is no different. Their ratings have been very good from the beginning but last couple months or so have shown a drop and are continuing to fall as the weeks go by. Why so?

Well, after the kidnapping scene, Kunal seemed to have less screen space which fans are not happy about.

Example of Kunal’s screen space in a recent episode for about 2minutes ONLY!!!

Kunal is the main lead and if audience see him in the show for this short space of time it is definitely not accepted!

The focus shifted from Kunal to Siddhi, where she was trying to handle and deal with the problems the family had encountered on her own which Kunal should have solved.

After all it’s a male centric show NOT female! Isn’t it??

So where is Kunal’s Parichay? What are his ‘Nayee Sapne’? Why has Kunal has lost so many jobs?

The typical saas-bahu track had started when Siddhi was revealed being pregnant. This trend didn’t last very long. PHEW!! *sigh of relief*

However, this ridiculous track doesn’t make sense because a consummation scene that was shown months ago. How on earth did the doctors during the kidnapping track not know Siddhi is pregnant? Siddhi herself didn’t get any symptoms of being pregnant and when she did NOTHING had happened! So why when everything was going well and they expressed their love for each other this track was put in place with a village ‘dai jaan’ giving the verdict.

We are getting the occasional good scenes but just hoping to get a lot more of Kunal and tracks to do with Kunal. I’ve noticed that Siddhi have had two birthdays whereas Kunal had none. WHY WHY WHY??

The character of Richa which was played by Mona Vasu has been replaced by Sonia Singh but I don’t like the new Richa. Mona played her so well. Also, this Rohit, her brother is walking in her footsteps and there’s absolutely no need for it!

Going by the new promo Siddhi driving and runs over someone which is Rohit who dies and is behind bars, not sure what to expect…separation is already happening, divorce is a possibility because of the separation but what next? I guess we have to wait and watch for the upcoming Saturday special at 9pm.

Enough of complaining is done. WE the FANS are not happy with the amount of screen space Kunal (Samir Soni) is getting but I’d like to congratulate the entire Parichay team on recently completing 200 episodes which is very commendable. May you have great new storylines for the show to increase its viewership and success! It’s been on air for 10 months.

Congratulations to Samir Soni on winning Best Actor (Popular) jointly with Ram Kapoor (Bade Achhe Lagte Hain), also a Balaji show in 11th Indian Telly Awards! Very well deserved! 😀

Samir ji has made me his fan because of his character Kunal. He does it with such ease, looks so natural and real. Sir, you do full justice to Kunal and I wish you get more appreciation and recognition for being the actor that you are.

A message out to Ekta ji, fans including myself complain a lot about the tracks that happen in Balaji shows as the same ones are used in all your shows. For example the divorce/separation track already used in Kya Hua Tera Vaada – Mona and Pradeep, its currently in the process in Bade Aache lagte Hain – Ram and Priya. Already the divorce track has been used in Parichay – and now again separation is happening between Kunal and Siddhi. Why is this so?

There are many fans who write fan fictions who would LOVE to write tracks/stories and that too for FREE! 😀

Bade Acche Laggte Hain – Ek Saal Baad, Ek Nayi Shuruwat!

“Kehte hain na, har kahani ke 2 bhaag hote hai. Pehla aur dusra. Pehle mein sab accha hota hai. 2 log milte hai, pyaar hota hai, phir shaadi. Dusre mein sab kuch  jo kahani kabhi kahi nahi  jaati and in the end they live happily ever after.. Har kahani wohin khatam hoti hai… Aur woh kahani ka beech ka hissa hai.. wahan se kahani actually shuru hoti hai..

Confused? You should be not! Bade Acche Laggte Hain completes a year today; it’s time for celebration, to revive old cherished memories and to take a positive step forward to welcome the LEAP! 🙂

Happy 1derful B’day to Bade Acche Laggte Hain – The most popular and most talked about show on Indian Television since its inception till date! Party hard peeps! Big shout out for the entire Bade Acche Laggte Hain cast & crew- for making it possible, for the viewers- for watching it, loving it & admiring it and also for all analyzers and critics – for selling it in your own way. 😉 Well, it’s a collective team effort and everybody deserves a pat on their back. Where is the CAKE? 😀

Let’s go down the memory lane. 30th May 2011, Ekta Kapoor, Balaji Telefilms and Sony TV collectively came up with one of the most promising shows on Indian Television, Bade Acche Laggte Hain. The name soon became a household one with the promos itself. When it started, everyone was going ga-ga over it. Who thought Ram & Sakshi would make an awesome and a beautiful couple? Surely ‘K’ween of Television did! Her vision could never be questioned! Atleast, I’d never do that. Sincerely, adore her just too much for that. With every show of hers, she sets a higher bench-mark not only for others, but for her own self too. Today, Ram and Sakshi are better off known as Ram and Priya too or as fans like to call them “RaYa”. Yes, this is how fans are attached to the show. It promised to be different and a mature love story and obviously lived up to the expectations.

First took place the takraar, then engagement, then shaadi, then honeymoon, not to mention, our dear RaYa enjoyed the most Rayalicious honeymoon in Australia for good 2 weeks. It was such a delight to watch them in the beauty of Aussie. Ain’t it? Post this; their aesthetically shot consummation sequence followed by Holi and finally Priya calling her husband by his first name and not “Mr. Kapoor”! Kween Kapoor gave us almost all the fruits on the platter and now we are waiting for the cherry on the cake.

But, wait a minute; I guess the fruit platter just got over before anyone could put a cherry on it. Yes, call it a buzz, rumors or whatever, now that it is confirmed, the cat is definitely out of the bag. iDubba predicted RaYa separation which audience will see happening soon enough. But, LEAP was something which we were not expecting!

But as Harivansh Rai Bachchan has quoted “Mann ka hua toh accha hai aur agar nahi hua toh aur bhi accha hai…” Well, we should go by this, and positively accept a change with broader minds and keeping aside our wishes. If we have adored a show for a year, why not give it a second shot? Why can’t there be “ek nayi shuruwat”?

Well well well, the promo is so adorable; one can’t just get enough of it! The little baby is a complete replica of a chotu Ram Kapoor. Cuteness personified. ‘Ek Nayi Shuruwat’ is what we should be waiting for now! The storyline seems to be interesting as well as mysterious. It has definitely created an anxiety among the fans. Loads of discussion has been happening on various Television sites as well as social networking sites. The promo is a complete HIT with more than 80,000 views in less than 4 days! Do I need to say more?

Fans, be positive and enjoy a new joy ride with a new storyline and new characters. I’m sure, after seeing it, you’ll say to those adorable kiddos “Bade Acche Laggte Hain with your own RaYa…” 🙂

Cheers !!!! Happy Viewing!

Is your favorite movie song and serial the same…. !!

Strange… right… Well, don’t be surprised but your favorite movie songs might actually end up becoming your favorite serial too.

Gone are those days when every other serial name would start with K (No offense to the makers), but that was a trend and a successful one. Times have changed now, and so does the trends. Now it’s a latest fashion to have movie songs as the title of a serial. You might agree that Films and Television always had a unique relationship since the beginning, and this trend is taking it one step ahead. Oh yes, I know you might now start recollecting those names 😉

Well, Let me help you with those amazing songs that are now the title of the most famous serials (some are popular in terms of content and some are popular just by their names) I will not get into the details of which are popular just by their names 😉 It’s up to you to decide that.

So, let’s start with the TV Soaps that have got their titles from the movie songs :

  • Kuch Toh Log Kahenge“, a hit song picturised on Sharmila Tagore and Rajesh Khanna in “Amar Prem“, is now the love story between Mohnish Behl and Kritika Kamra
  • The title of Ekta Kapoor’s “Bade Acche Lagte Hain” is picked up from the song in the 1976 movie “Balika Badhu“, about the arranged marriage of two teenagers, played by Sachin Pilgaonker and Rajni Sharma
  • Dekha Ek Khwaab“, has been taken from the evergreen song “Dekha ek khwaab toh yeh silsilay hue” picturised on Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha in the 1981 film “Silsila
  • Sapno Se Bhare Naina” is from ShankarEhsaanLoy’s composition from the soundtrack of “Luck By Chance
  • Iss Pyaar ko Main Kya Naam Doon” is another show that takes its title from a song from Tusshar KapoorKareena Kapoor-starrer “Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai
  • Kya Hua Tera Vaada“, is from the movie Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin in 1977. Sung by the great Mohammad Rafi
  • Sasural Genda Phool” is from the movie Delhi 6, and sung by Rekha Bharadwaj & others under music composition by A.R.Rehman

And so on…So let me take this opportunity to ask you, is this a healthy trend? Or has the Television Industry run out of creative ideas? Well, time will only tell and of course the viewers who make it a hit or a flop. The TRP’s of the show will have the final say on this interesting trend 😉 So, do let us know if you come across any such serials that have its title been taken from a movie song. Don’t forget to share your views on this latest trend.

How shows like Bade Ache Lagte Hain and Parichay can revolutionize Indian soap opera?

Since it’s inception TV soaps are known to target only home-makers, but not any more! With soaps like “Bade Acche Laggte Hain” on Sony and “Parichay” on Colors this might change (and it’s already changing) very soon.

Recently these two soaps have grabbed our eyeballs (yes, we do not watch any other soaps on TV :D). This is what we have observed –

These shows have dared and been successful so far in catering the audience of age group 25+ Males in addition to the usual 35+ Females, which is the usual benchmark for any Indian soap opera show.

My only question– Was this intentional? Did Ekta actually gave this a thought (that she can hack the minds of nomads like us)? Or is this because youngsters like us are not getting anything worth to watch?

Well it will take some time to really understand the true reason behind this. So why am I talking about this today?

Well, I might have never touched this genre but was compelled when my 30 year old married brother mentioned it last night that even he watches these 2 shows on TV every night. I was shocked. Why? Coz like us he hates all other soap operas.

Coincidentally both these shows have been produced under Ekta Kapoor’s banner of Balaji Telefilms, who is undoubtedly the queen of Indian soap operas. “Bade Achhe Laggte hain” which was launched a little earlier than “Parichay”, has Saakshi Tanwar and Ram Kapoor in the main lead. The show has been in lime-light because of the extraordinary storyline where Saakshi who is in her early thirties and Ram who is in his early forties get married for the sake of their families and then the show depicts their struggle to adjust with each other. Also how they both start developing affection for each other. The show entails a hilarious bickering between these two which is the most interesting part to watch as many couples in the same situation will be able to co-relate themselves.

Parichay” was launched in August which has Samir Soni playing the male protagonist as Kunal Chopra, who has lost his interest in life due to his failures and continues to lead an indifferent life. Life takes a major u-turn when he loses his brother in a bomb blast on the day of his wedding and he is forced to marry his deceased brother’s fiancé, Siddhi Kunal Chopra (role played by Keerti Nagpure). The story has been given very typical treatment but the role essayed and portrayed by Samir Soni is what keeps the viewers glued to the show. The show is a major hit and has already beaten some of its competitor shows in the same time slot on other channels.

Both the shows have lead couples with awesome chemistry and that is one of the most compelling reasons for millions of viewers across the country to get hooked to these shows. Either they will create a niche for them and will be one of the few shows that cater to a larger audience. However we also feel that if they continue to be in the same league they will survive otherwise if they introduce the regular drama/ or not required turns then they will also fail with the new created audience just like any other soap opera shows in India.

Are we going to see more of such soaps targeting youth?
