The latest show on Star Plus “Ek Doosre Se Karte Hai Pyaar Hum” made its debut on 23rd April, 2012. It replaced Sasural Genda Phool- A show that had been entertaining its fans all over the globe for the past 2 years. This is latest offering by Hats Off Productions. Hats Off is famous for producing shows like Sarabhai VS Sarabhai, Khichdi, Instant Khichdi, Baa Bahu Aur Baby, Ek Packet Umeed, Jassuben Jayantilal Joshi Ki Joint Family, Resham Dankh, to name a few. JD Majethia and Aatish Kapadia are professionals as well as friends. The duo always comes up with some fresh and light shows which lure the audience.
The promos of the show Ek Doosre Se Karte Hai Pyaar Hum were hilarious and portrayed a typical Gujju family story, based in Ahmedabad. It is not just a comedy show. But has various soapy elements like drama, suspense, emotions, etc. It has a very high emotional quotient!
It is a story of the Majumdar family which includes- saas, sasur, beta, bahu, baa, other kids and servants. Primarily it falls into saas-bahu saga or a family story. The saas is a perfect, dignified and progressive woman, and not the typical one. She wants to groom her bahu and make her the ‘Raubdaar Naagraani’ of the Majumdar Family. In the first episode itself, the show took a leap of 4 years. In the span of these 4 years, the saas did not succeed in her grooming. Now, she feels it’s high time; she should do something about it. And she starts being a little strict, but is completely positive. On the other side, Susla (bahu) shares a very beautiful relationship with her brother-in-law Aniket, who she loves like her own Son. Since she has been childless for four years into her marriage, her love and affection for Aniket often results in her supporting, pampering and taking his side on every occasion. And the saas (Samyukta) thinks her bahu is responsible for spoiling Aniket’s habits. And she keeps on wanting to stop her, tries to, but fails eventually. This is the emotional and drama content.
The humor element comes in the show with the typical gujju accent of the characters, the two teenage kids who are ‘not-so-gujju’ types, and are more inclined to books and gadgets. Shashwat (the other brother-in-law) has a habit of talking like ‘I toh, then toh’ and using ‘urf’ and some filmy connection to each and every sentence he speaks.
Suspense element enters the show when we get to know that Aniket is suffering from ‘sleep-walking’ disease. He is irresponsible, did not study after his 12th, and is super pampered. But the twist in the tale comes when we might get to know, that Aniket might not be the biological son of the Majumdar family. (Just a WILD guess after watching 4th episode of the show).
The show over-all has a ‘smart’ blend of all characteristics. There’s a lot of glamour in the show too. The set is lavish and huge. Exteriors have also been shot well. Music is awesome; I feel the credit goes to the production house as well as the channel to select one of the finest songs for the title. The different versions of the title track being used in the background music, adds more connectivity to the show.
First week of the show was more of establishment of the family and its characters. They ended on a high note of suspense. Well, we all welcome the Majumdar family with open arms. I hope it keeps on entertaining the audience and offer smart and fresh content. The show does look promising and interesting!
Not to mention, Hats Off to “Hats Off” for launching the show during IPL. And the time slot is also 7.30 pm, which is the starting timing of the IPL matches. They sure do have GUTS and a great Vision. Best wishes to the team.
