Is ‘Bade Ache Lagte Hain’ heading for a leap?

#BALH, yes this is a very famous hash tag that is all over Twitter. And this Hash tag has been very active since couple of days, for some strange reasons. There have been some reports that ‘Bade Ache Lagte Hain’ is heading for a leap! This news has spread over the Internet like a wild fire, and the audience has been very reactive on Twitter about this news. But why are the fans so worried about the Leap? Have they forgotten that this is the Strategy that Balaji Telefilms has been using for most of its popular shows?

Here is a small view what people are talking on twitter:

So what is the reason for the Leap and how long will this leap be?

There are some reports that the creative team is planning 4-5 years leap in the show. As there is a tension been created between Ram and Priya’s relationship and soon this will lead to separation. And after the leap, Saakshi Tanwar a.k.a Priya will have a kid whose demeanor will resemble Ram Kapoor. So are you impressed by the story? Will #BALH again trend on Twitter (For the right reasons)?

Not long ago Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar were shown making love for the entire episode — caressing each other and kissing twice. Sony TV had been airing steamy promos of this episode before they actually aired the episode and gave a shock to the ‘regular’ people, and by regular I mean family who sit together to watch something sensible and definitely less controversial. Many of you might not agree with us and call us hypocrites for not accepting something which is so natural. You can check out our previous blog on this particular episode Indian TV Screen coming off age – Really?”

As mentioned earlier that this is not the first time that Ekta Kapoor has used the “Leap” factor in her shows. Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki, one of the most popular prime time soaps on television, had taken an 18-year leap, following in the footsteps of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (20-year leap) and Kasauti Zindagi Ki (8 yrs leap). Interesting, right? Generation Leaps seem to come back as the norm on television. So does that mean that weekly and daily shows will again go for “fast forward” leap in a bid to keep the audience interest alive?

Do let us know your views on this “Leap” factor! Also will the audience be able to help #BLAH trend on Twitter? 😉

Happy leaping 😉 and Happy Viewing.

Bade Achhe Lagte Hain upcoming story- iDubba predicts

What do you all think of upcoming story in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain?

I’m sure all the religious fans must have had thoughts as well as discussion on the future predictable story of Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, after the shocking NUTZ promo!

I’ll tell you what could be the most predictable tracks for the coming week, (THEY ARE JUST MY PREDICTIONS); don’t hit me watching the actual story if it is not similar.

I’ve been personally watching K-soaps since more than a decade now. It becomes an art to decode the story once you know the root of it. Like we all know, one day Ram will definitely get to know about the true colors of his ‘so-called’ step family.  But HOW and WHEN it will happen is to watch out for! We have a real LONG way to go! I’d be pleasantly surprised if this happens sometime soon; like the Consummation night! According to me, it could have waited a little while.

Decoding the Promo:

After the NUTZ promo where she comes all bruised and when asked who did that to her, she said ‘Kartik’, everyone amongst us along with Ram and Priya are shocked! Aren’t you? I will not be surprised even if you aren’t! Because, Indian audience has educated themselves and the story has become so damn predictable. We all know Kartik cannot do such a thing. So, next question is who did it? We are acting as if we do not know what evil trio is up to! This same thing has happened ‘n’ number of times in K-soaps. Am I right? Or Am I right! Definitely Nutz must have hurt her own self to create a rift between Ram-Priya.  As we all have read as well as heard about the ‘much-not-awaited’ separation track, we can guess this much, can’t we?

Drama, Drama, Drama:

And the awesome pre-cap. Ram goes and shouts on Kartik, and he’s silent. Doesn’t know what has happened and why Ram is behaving in such a way. It’s so FUNNY! Ain’t it? TV soaps DRAMA par he toh chalte hain! Kyaa kar sakte hain…Might as well watch and LOL! Kartik might realize that what he did was wrong. He should not have made a mountain out of a molehill! But kyaa karein, who bhi toh insaan hain, roz-roz ke pange se thakk ghaya tha bechara..!! (Oh wait! I did not see much pangas happening, and what they showed was very stupid!) But Ramji ke gusse ke aagey would he survive? He will not be able to utter a single word out of his mouth, right? Let’s see what happens. Be happy, there’s lots of drama which will unfold in the coming week.

Much-not-awaited Separation:

Due to Nutz-Kartik issue or some atrocious reasons…Our dear Ram and Priya ‘mutually’ decide to separate with some blend of misunderstandings obviously. This I can say, by rightly observing their characters right from the first episode itself; how much they love their respective families; more than anything or anyone or even more than themselves or their relationship. Nothing matters to them apart from their families being happy, no matter what! But the point is who wants to watch this? You, you or you? Not me certainly. But sooner or later, this will happen. TV soap hai bhai, varna story aagey kasie badhegi ?? LOL! And once the separation happens, Ram will spend hours and days desperately waiting. And so will Priya, trying to adjust herself in her own drawing room! We will get overdose of 10 minutes of flashbacks daily out of 20 minutes..! But both will think, “jo hua acche ke liye hua, aakhir mera parivaar bhi toh meri zimmedaari hai na.” (What is new in this, can someone tell me?) I’d be more than happy, if I do NOT get to see this and instead get to watch a No-Separation-Track and a fresh transition in the story. What do you feel?

Surprise or Shock:

What if it happens the other way round? What if either Ram or Priya gets to know about the truth of Nutz? If Ram gets to know, I can just think about writing that ‘HE’LL BE ZAPPED” and would not know how to react. He’ll be dying 100 deaths before actually dying. But I can’t see this coming! We have to wait for this! What if Priya gets to know? What will she do then? What should she do?  Should she tell Ram? How? Does she have any proof? Knowing that Ram blindly trusts his family and would not believe anything without proper proof. Even if she proves it, it will eventually hurt him. What if she decides to remain silent? I’ll leave it up to you guys to think and then, let’s wait and watch!

Don’t forget to comment and put your point! Let’s have some cool discussion and decode the next week’s story.

Indian TV Screen coming off age – Really?

Were you ready to watch your first ever lip lock scene on Indian Television? Honestly I wasn’t, may be because I was watching it with family. Also it wasn’t just a lip lock but almost a 20 minute ‘love making’ scene which was way too bolder for Indian audience. Yes we are talking about the much hyped “love making” scene between Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar, the lead pair on a popular soap ‘Bade Ache Lagte Hain’ currently aired on Sony Entertainment television.

Sony tv had been airing steamy promos of this episode since last 2 weeks before they actually aired the episode and gave a shock to the ‘regular’ people, and by regular I mean family who sit together to watch something sensible and definitely less controversial. Many of you might not agree with us and call us hypocrites for not accepting something which is so natural. However I would definitely want to ask this question to our loyal audience that was it really necessary to show the on screen couple consummate their wedding by showing what actually happens between two people when they have sex. And that too with complete 20 minutes (that is whole one episode minus the advertisements) coverage just to show that how happily they accomplished their marital relationship. What are the channel’s producers exactly trying to prove here?

We really believe in progressing and strongly believe that Indian television is certainly coming off age breaking the shackles of monotonous soap opera concepts with same old saas-bahu sagas. But there are many other sane ways to do it rather than showing something on tv which puts you in an embarrassing situation in front of people with whom you watch it.

I have nothing against the show and definitely want to mention it that I follow the show ardently because of the freshness it brought from the usual soap operas of Indian television. Also I am not condemning the idea of showing ‘love making’ between the on screen couple, in fact I agree that it was the requirement of script and the show to take a major turn now. But what I am trying to prove here is that it could have been portrayed in a way which was more aesthetically comfortable for the audience.

As soon as the episode was over the next thing we knew was that the lead couple Ram and Sakshi were trending on the social networking site ‘twitter’. Mostly made jokes about the weight issues of Ram Kapoor which is more disheartening to see. Many poked fun asking for the link for the video of ‘Ram and Sakshi having sex’. Do we really need all this cheap drama or a good show which was admired anyway before this over hyped scene?

We will leave you with this thought and would definitely love to know your opinion about the same.

Top 10 shows on TV during 2011

We are just two days away from 2012. So in this special blog post iDubba brings you the 10 most popular shows/events of 2011. The ranking and popularity has been taken in consideration on the basis of activities done for these shows on iDubba in 2011.

  1. ICC Cricket World Cup 2011: There is definitely no surprise to see this event on top because 2011 as year is the biggest for India as we witnessed Indian team winning World Cup after 28 long years. Sports channels had the highest TRPS ever.
  2. MTV Roadies (Season 8): The longest running reality show with eight seasons in its kitty it is already in news for its ninth season starting next week. There has been a lot of speculation about the show being scripted but it still remains one of the most watched and favourite among the younger lot.
  3. Indian Premier League 2011: Another cricket event. So that makes the score 2 in total and that is definitely not astonishing in our country where second God is cricket despite being hockey as the national game.
  4. Splitsvilla (Season 4): Another reality show of MTV channel that targets youngsters. This reality show based on dating certainly knows how to turn heads. Bunch of hot girls and boys put together in a house to woo each other. What will you expect? 😉
  5. Koffee with Karan (Season 3): This chat show is my personal favourite and the only chat show that I can sit and watch without getting impatient. This one undoubtedly has a fresh and witty appeal to it. The show began to air in 2004 and has been a huge success since then.
  6. Bade Achhe Laggte Hain: Produced under Ekta Kapoor’s banner of Balaji Telefilms, who is undoubtedly the queen of Indian soap operas, “Bade Ache Lagte hai” which was launched in second half of the year, has Saakshi Tanwar and Ram Kapoor in the main lead. This show has millions of viewers across the country glued to the shows.

How shows like Bade Ache Lagte Hain and Parichay can revolutionize Indian soap opera?

Since it’s inception TV soaps are known to target only home-makers, but not any more! With soaps like “Bade Acche Laggte Hain” on Sony and “Parichay” on Colors this might change (and it’s already changing) very soon.

Recently these two soaps have grabbed our eyeballs (yes, we do not watch any other soaps on TV :D). This is what we have observed –

These shows have dared and been successful so far in catering the audience of age group 25+ Males in addition to the usual 35+ Females, which is the usual benchmark for any Indian soap opera show.

My only question– Was this intentional? Did Ekta actually gave this a thought (that she can hack the minds of nomads like us)? Or is this because youngsters like us are not getting anything worth to watch?

Well it will take some time to really understand the true reason behind this. So why am I talking about this today?

Well, I might have never touched this genre but was compelled when my 30 year old married brother mentioned it last night that even he watches these 2 shows on TV every night. I was shocked. Why? Coz like us he hates all other soap operas.

Coincidentally both these shows have been produced under Ekta Kapoor’s banner of Balaji Telefilms, who is undoubtedly the queen of Indian soap operas. “Bade Achhe Laggte hain” which was launched a little earlier than “Parichay”, has Saakshi Tanwar and Ram Kapoor in the main lead. The show has been in lime-light because of the extraordinary storyline where Saakshi who is in her early thirties and Ram who is in his early forties get married for the sake of their families and then the show depicts their struggle to adjust with each other. Also how they both start developing affection for each other. The show entails a hilarious bickering between these two which is the most interesting part to watch as many couples in the same situation will be able to co-relate themselves.

Parichay” was launched in August which has Samir Soni playing the male protagonist as Kunal Chopra, who has lost his interest in life due to his failures and continues to lead an indifferent life. Life takes a major u-turn when he loses his brother in a bomb blast on the day of his wedding and he is forced to marry his deceased brother’s fiancé, Siddhi Kunal Chopra (role played by Keerti Nagpure). The story has been given very typical treatment but the role essayed and portrayed by Samir Soni is what keeps the viewers glued to the show. The show is a major hit and has already beaten some of its competitor shows in the same time slot on other channels.

Both the shows have lead couples with awesome chemistry and that is one of the most compelling reasons for millions of viewers across the country to get hooked to these shows. Either they will create a niche for them and will be one of the few shows that cater to a larger audience. However we also feel that if they continue to be in the same league they will survive otherwise if they introduce the regular drama/ or not required turns then they will also fail with the new created audience just like any other soap opera shows in India.

Are we going to see more of such soaps targeting youth?
