It looks like Aamir is preparing himself for a top class Job offer after his Bollywood Career. Why? Well, his out-of-box marketing strategies must be catching the eyes of top class media honchos and who knows he might be having some offers already. On this Business Blog it makes sense to have a look at some of the aspects of Marketing and relate it to the skills and strategies of Aamir Khan.
Aspect 1: Understanding Market
If Ghajini meant reaching out to all type of Audience and meeting people who are going crazy about Aamir’s looks, ‘3Idiots’ means catching college students who most probably have read “Five Point Someone”.
That’s a very critical lesson from marketing point of view- Start promoting the product from a small group which is able to embrace the ‘idea’ behind the product without actually getting access to real product. Remember what iPhone did?
Ok.. most of you might be wondering about iDubba now! What it is? How it’s different? How it can save my life and much more.. That’s why we thought of coming up with this Blog update to let our readers connect with iDubba in a better way!
iDubba’s main USP is in understanding your profile and behaviour. There are many websites which will give you schedules of TV shows/Movies but they will not suggest you that why should you watch them. iDubba understands this pain area and allows user to find shows of their interests with ease. That’s why with every show results you also get handy information saying why should you watch that show. Very soon we’ll enable features where you can rate shows and comment on them too.
Our aim is to make your searches fast and relevant. We don’t want that you spend more time on iDubba itself rather than watching actual programs. We have started with six basic genres right now. But we chose them based on the interests of internet users, and because its very difficult to get relevant information about shows in these categories.
Now why should you register? You can use a very effective feature “iAlerts” after registering with iDubba. Whenever you search for shows based on your choices, you will get an option to set alerts for same. Those alerts will tell you when the show appears over TV, and also give you an option to set alert for same. We know that for you the main challenge today is in knowing about shows which might interest you and then getting alerts about the same so that you can watch them. We will soon be implementing reminder features and alerts through various other networks and Devices.
Now the more you surf over iDubba (after getting registered), the better our algorithm understands you and show results keep on getting better by the day based on your behaviour. We’ll keep on adding more shows and channels and will also better our search criteria so that you can choose shows based on channels and Languages too.
So keep surfing iDubba! We promise to come up with all these and much more very soon!
Okay! You might question me – are you obsessed with reality? The truth is- NO.
I’m obsessed with the stupidity of people who make us watch reality shows. Well I should not simply bad mouth the word “Reality” here, because there is some good reality content over TV too. Some of the shows which I like in their original form are “So you think you can Dance”, “Chotte Miyan”, “Mindfreak” etc. But, I’m not here to talk about such shows, otherwise you’ll lose patience and browse off my guest author page :-).
What about shows like “Lux- The perfect Bride”? Or more interesting one “Raaz Pichle Janam ka” on NDTV Imagine? Now, I got your attention, right? I don’t want to describe what happens in such shows, as you’re more educated about these than me. What I want to talk about is “Reality TV Shows”. What exactly is a “Reality Show”? To what extent one can go in the name of Reality? And all this from a very common man’s perspective. continue reading..
Yesterday I was able to catch this show which I wanted to watch when it premiered in India but somehow missed that time. However yesterday I put a reminder for the show and was able to catch it right on time. So here is my take on the show-
“Doing DaVinci” is based on innovative and creative thinking of the original Renaissance Man- Leonardo Da Vinci. He was an artist, scientist and a master of technology. Some of the designs which he made were thought to be ahead of his time and couldn’t be constructed then. Discovery thought of this as a good opportunity and came up with this idea of making a show around such designs.
But, as we know Discovery, they are experts in creating shows which are awesomely appealing. Hence they chose the ‘war’ section of Da Vinci’s designs to be constructed by a team of six experts from various fields of expertise. In this series their aim to construct 4 war designs viz. Armored Tank, Siege Ladder, Scythe Chariot and Machine Gun.
Yesterday I watched their “Seize Ladder” episode. In the episode ‘The crew attempts to build the renaissance master’s most massive design: a towering three-story siege ladder. But as creative differences arise, tension threatens to pull the team apart.’ To be frank the show wasn’t able to leave an awe effect on me, as it does for other Discovery shows. May be because this episode was related to a ladder and not something like Tanks and Fire guns. But one thing which was missing is lack of information about Da Vinci’s design itself. They should have covered his theory behind the design more extensively, because that is something we are really looking at on the show.
The show still has some usual Discovery touch- fighting among team members (some spice), flawless commentary and perfect execution. The only lacking part for last episode was content. Let’s hope that upcoming episodes are better in content as well.
Watch this show on Discovery: Sat, Dec 19 at 10:00 AM and let us know what you think about the same.
So here is iDubba’s iVerdict for the show- [3 Stars]
Note: Verdict can be modified after watching future episodes :-)!
Recent spurt in Global Warming related news across media has put it in the limelight! Now everyone in household has started talking about it, and that too in a serious tone. In my opinion this is a very important development, as fight against Global warming can’t succeed unless common people understand the ill effects of same.
For past 12 years (since Kyoto protocol in 1997) Governments from all over the world are trying to blame each other rather than taking any major step to reduce emissions. The choice is difficult- Growth or Climate?
Since for any Government it’s very important to keep the economy stable in short term (5-10 years), it’s not an easy thing to choose climate over growth. No one has understood this yet, and now we are again going to have Copenhagen Summit, which will probably lead to similar results as of Kyoto.
So what’s the solution? Should our Government just sit and watch what’s happening? Well, they still are doing nothing different! My point is Government should take a secondary role here. Primary role has to be taken up by media. There is only one way Global warming can be reduced- by making common people well aware of the situation and taking individual steps to slowly reduce this effect. I know it’s difficult but it seems to be the only logical solution. Because for a Govt to confidently back any major carbon reduction solution, it would need support from its voters.
Recently many news channels have taken up this topic very enthusiastically for various reasons, but results are visible. I met one Industrialist who even wanted to have one windmill setup, as he saw some great future for green energy in India. From India TV (which has large fan base in rural India) to CNN-IBN (best urban news channel) every channel is proactively broadcasting shows which make user aware of Global warming. But I’m yet to find any show which can teach common people how to individually contribute in reducing carbon footprint. Last week’s “Brunch” from HT mentioned some entrepreneurs and talked about their individual efforts and ways to reduce global warming. One of the methods can be to buy Carbon credits and make your small events carbon free.
Other show which is very timely showcased is Discovery’s “Project Earth”. This show describes some of the Geo Engineering methods which can become the ultimate solution to all Global Warming woes. But they can also be hazardous to environment, since they can bring serious environmental changes on a large scale.
Media has started doing its bit to reduce Global warming, let’s hope that this war continues till we see a solution coming or till Carbon burns the whole planet! Choice is ours.
Did you read that big Ad on almost every news paper saying “Blue collects 100 Crores in revenue”? And, more importantly did you read the same movie’s review on any newspaper or website? Quite contrasting. Right? Call it a normal phenomena or astute strategy but this has surely taken toll on almost every new Bollywood release! These days movies are known not by their general reviews but by how much collections they are able to make at Box-office.
I have even seen Directors and Actors trying to prove critics wrong by telling them numbers. I saw one interview of Akshay where he assured “Who says ‘Chandni Chowk to China’ is a flop? The movie was able to recover most of its expenses.”. continue reading..
